Can I bring my horse?

Yes, you may bring a horse if you meet the following guidelines:

  • You have previously attended a Workshop or Clinic at Terra Nova, with or without a horse.
  • You are certain the animal trailer-loads and unloads easily and has good experience of travel to distant locations.

Your equine’s welfare is our first concern. Our goal is to teach YOU how to use Positive Reinforcement Training (your horse already knows how!) This is why we require that you’ve attended at least one Positive Reinforcement Weekend Clinic or Workshop at Terra Nova before bringing a horse, so that you are familiar with the format and we are familiar with your R+ experience.

We don’t want anyone to force a scared or unwilling horse onto a trailer just to get to the Workshop! Much better for you to attend yourself and go home with the skills to teach your horse about trailer loading using Positive Reinforcement Training. Not being able to load a horse at the last minute is not a reason for cancellations or refunds. See our Cancellation Policy for further information.

Where do Workshop participants stay?

We’re excited to announce that we’ve arranged for our Workshop and Course participants to stay at the nearby Bobcat Inn B&B, which is only about 8 minutes away from Terra Nova. It’s cute as a button and very friendly!

For your travel planning, your course or workshop fee includes check-in at the Bobcat Inn on the first day (always a Friday) of the Workshop date, and check-out on the last day (again, always a Friday) of the listed Workshop dates. The last Friday is always a check-out and travel day; the workshop is over on Thursday afternoon but you have that Thursday night at the Bobcat included in your fee. The Workshop begins no earlier than 1 pm on the first Friday.

Nights outside the listed Workshop dates may be booked directly with the Bobcat Inn at a Terra Nova discount determined by the Bobcat, ONLY after you have registered for a course or workshop and received an email confirmation from clinics@terranovatrainingcenter.com.

Can I share a room?

Each Intensive Workshop registration pages will show you available options for room sharing!

What is a “Break Day”?

Intensive Workshops start on Fridays and end on the next Friday. It’s intense! We’ve found that our participants need time to absorb, rest and process all they are seeing and learning.  Not to mention, Santa Fe is a destination in itself.  There’s amazing scenery, art, history, and outdoor activities. So each Monday or Tuesday during a Workshop will be a “Break Day,” with no Workshop activities.

Depending on the season and availability, we’ll offer a chance to participate in hiking, touring and shopping on Break Day (or you’re always free to just rest in your room!) Special activity options will be announced in the months before each Workshop. The price of special Break Day activities is not included in the Workshop or Course fees.

What about meals?

See What to Expect at a 6-Day Intensive Workshop for a list of meals included in the Workshop.  Santa Fe also has great restaurants and food options to explore.

How do I get to Santa Fe?

See our Transportation page for options to travel to Santa Fe.

How do I get around during the Workshop?

During the workshop itself, you’ll be transported to the Terra Nova facility in our vehicles. We can also arrange to take you out to dinner or drop you off and pick you up in historic downtown Santa Fe on Break Day.

Because we strongly feel that a big part of the learning experience is connecting with other participants and their ideas, we discourage using your own vehicle or rental car for transport during the Workshop itself, except on Break Day, unless you have a compelling reason.

Can I reserve extra nights at the Bobcat Inn?

Nights outside of the Workshop dates can be reserved directly with the Bobcat Inn at the Terra Nova discount rate. Be SURE to REGISTER for the Workshop and receive your emailed Workshop Confirmation from clinics@terranovatrainingcenter.com before you contact the Bobcat, as we will be notifying them of each registration so they can assign rooms.  Let them know which Workshop you are participating in, and what type of room you selected with your workshop registration. For the extra nights, the Bobcat will try to accommodate you in the same or another room if possible.  IMPORTANT: The Bobcat Inn determines what the rate for extra nights will be.

What are themed workshops?

Some of our 2019 Workshops will focus on themes such as Husbandry, Trailer-loading, and Impulse Control.  Follow our Facebook page to vote on ideas for more Workshop themes!
